Tribe 04:42
We all burn out. We all fall down. We all come round. We all feel doubt. We all stand out. We all dream wild. Is this a dream? Is this all we can know? If this is a dream then give it room to grow and grow and grow. I want to feel I want to see I want to try I want to speak I want to think I want to love. Love is the reason love drives the season Love is the message in cycles prescient you send again and again and again into the blue into the wild, wild other that’s where we are that’s all we are is nothing and nothing is real there is only Love growing growing my tribe growing my tribe, growing my tribe. We all can dream We all can sing We all can feel We need to breathe We need to sleep We need to trust. Here, it’s autumn again and I’m falling with the leaves falling with the trees swept away in seas, away in seas seas of wonder of wonder of wonder We all burn out We all come round We all feel doubt We all dream wild. music & lyrics: PC & RA

You can look at happiness, maybe you can feel it too but it never holds its shape never carries through it’s only an echo in you an echo in you a reason, a meaning a kind of light, fleeting watching the slow door. I love the dream I once had I’m still in love with that dream, something about home something about leaving So much to feel I couldn’t take it all in but it just took me over it was all so real You were running wild in flowers running wild wild in flowers and when you were done running Love, when you were done running Love and I said Stay, we knew it was love when I said Stay. music: PC & RA lyrics: RA

Straight On 07:04
Straight on, brave the distance Rage on, shedding all resistance all resistance... Straight on I do believe your starlight straight on, showing me the dawn. How long before we find each other how wrong fear keeping us apart. I so loved that line; this land is pure wide treasure And when you sing I can’t begin to measure but I can feel it all turning, darling I can feel it turning I’ll go straight on out to the horizon I’ll keep straight on where the headlights show Straight on the road before revealing Straight on the destination knows. I’ll keep straight on, I’ll travel fast, the wheels will never slow until I’m home at last straight on, the gate swings open ... the gate swings open music: PC & RA lyrics: RA (quoted line from a sonnet by Pel Doherty; used with permission)

Do you want to go home? Dance with me now hold your hand in mine I’ve always loved you and always will ‘till my last day on this crazy earth beckons me on to the unknown light. The look in your eyes shines my stars at night to see your face when you smile thrills the beat of my heart every day so bright Love to you Eve. Love to you Eve may your days be ever warm my darlin’ Eve. Love to you Eve. Love to you Eve may your days be ever warm my darlin’ Eve. Strange isn’t it that it never really matters where we end up, you will always dream the skies of home. You never really leave. words & music PC & RA with special thanks to Germaine Greer

Buckleboo Station 1923 I sit, barely awake at the far southern end of the platform The bench now cold under my hand as I stare into the infinite darkness It is 2am, an hour since the last train departed Indeed it’s yellowed windows sped onwards to the end of the line And now just me in my finest suit, dressed to the nines The master calls upon me to join him My slow gait wanders and shuffles back to the baggage room The filing of tickets, his timetable checked and re-checked He flicks the switch, the blue light turns to red And offers me a swig of his Sherry A pocket watch trembles in his hand.....clicking and ticking Beating in perfect rhythm and time to the station hall clock I can’t bear to look at him For a face too often is a bad index to the heart It is clearly obvious from his careful stare That he has seen men like me before He observes the tiny box held in my left hand As if by telepathy I hand it over to him Now opened, His green grey eyes now gaze upon the golden band That was now meant to be miles from here Snapping it shut, he smiles, and hands it back to me I feel becalmed, motionless, forsaken If only for this one hopeless night........on Buckleboo Station Lyrics & recitative: PC music; RA

Take me home laid at rest I am here feel your caress I am here, don’t forget me I am here. I am gold now, and flamed unfound and untamed free now I’m free don’t forget me I can see you, don’t cry I am with you Autumn sky autumn sky Summer rose growing over my rose growing over I am gold now, and flamed Unfound and untamed Free, now I’m free don’t forget me Free, I am free don’t forget me forget me forget me music: RA & PC lyrics: RA

Skua 05:38
Floating the edge of land far behind me no shoreline no shoreline white wings brace against the wind rising no shoreline no shoreline. There is the sky there is the water there a cloud billows laden, and tragic where others like me and others we needed feed and find the seed still fertile and magic Looking for something, something something... I let fall the golden ring and watch it disappear under the waves, under the water where all the human cities lie hidden lie hidden their guns finally, quiet. Floating, the edge of land far behind me... music: RA with PC lyrics: RA.

Arc I-II-III 14:41
I’m sorry, I’m sorry I didn’t mean it should not have said that I’m sorry, I’m sorry how could I have done that? There’s so many ways when I’m not paying attention I stumble and fall and the meaning I always look for goes by me goes by me. Please, please let me wipe that tear, chase that fear I’ll put a bandage on the place that’s hurting if you would just show me there are so many ways when you’re not paying attention you stumble and fall but the feeling I know you’re looking for will always be there. music: PC & PS with RA lyrics: RA

about

Collaborating long distance between Melbourne & Sydney (Australia) and the hills of upstate New York, experimental post-rock, electronica, chamber music & art collective Birds Through Fire have completed their second full length album project “The Sting of Everything” on the bands “Trench Editions” label.

A wide-ranging meditation on existence, love, loss, peril, and metaphysics, presented within an ever-shifting musical perspective. Written and produced over the course of the Covid 19 pandemic, this two-disc set continues the musical path laid down in their debut release “Letters To Thurza” (Trench Editions, 2015), but follows that path deep into unmarked territory.

“The Sting of Everything” marries lush cinematic landscapes and haunting vocals with churning, sometimes raucous guitar-driven ambience, glowing atmospherics and floating, esoteric chamber music arrangements.
